A glossary of technical terms and abbreviations used in the beverage, industrial and fuel-ethanol industries. Compiled by John E. Murtagh, Ph.D.
This glossary has been compiled to meet a need expressed in the beverage, industrial and fuel-ethanol production industries. It attempts to define the various distillery products, together with the meanings of words in common usage and many of the technical terms which appear in textbooks, reports and newsletters. The definitions were prepared by comparing information from a wide variety of published sources, with extensive additions and amendments based on personal experience in the industry. Language is not static, but evolving continuously, and the meanings of words cannot be defined by any one person. They should reflect the general consensus of all persons using them. Definitions of words must therefore change with time, and we would welcome any suggestions as to additions and corrections. Murtagh and Associates have exercised all due care in compiling this glossary, but they cannot accept any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy and completeness of information contained herein.
NOTE:This is an abridged version of The Alcohol Glossary containing a representative sample of 140 definitions. A full version containing more than 600 definitions, is included in The Alcohol Textbook and also in the Worldwide Distilleries Guide.
